Mt. Hamilton Road Race... I was abused!
yea I've barely been training lately and yea I've put on 5-7 lbs. of 'sympathy weight'(!), so I was pretty much expecting the worst, but I was just plain abused at the Mt. Hamilton Road Race yesterday. it starts from the gun with a 21 mile climb from sea level over 4,000 feet, and then rolls on for over 6,000 feet of climbing over 63 miles. I hung on for about 13 miles of climbing before getting dropped. on the plus side there were probably only about 30 guys left when I popped and I was able to continue to the finish solo at a pretty good tempo. but man, I finished the race completely wiped (40+ miles solo, go figure!). it's embarassing to say, but haven't riden that long in at least a month, and I certainly haven't riden that hard in way too long! ah well it was still a positive experience... I was happy with how well I rode out the race. Racing is good... hard, really hard, but good!
My teammate Jon Erskine tore it up and finished 11th... way to go Jon E! He then proceeded to turn around and ride home. Whatever dude!
I'll post full results when they're available.
UPDATE (6/20/05): so they got me down as 41st... not quite as good as I hoped, but still all things considered, I'll take it. Just gotta keep plugging away and doing what I can. Full results here.
