VeloNews: Armstrong's 7th elicits praise from many quarters

I'm sure by now you all Lance got his 7th Tour victory... and he did it in his calm cool completely planned and calculated manner. No one else had a chance... mighty impressive if you ask me.

I know it's hard to see in this photo, again with the crappy camera phone taken while we drove by, but this guys deserves to be employee of the year or something. He's out there dancing like a maniac shaking that sign around so people will realize there's a Quizno's sub shop there. I've seen people doing this before, but not like this guy... he put's his heart and soul into it! boogin' down like nobodies business, waving at everyone, etc... I'll try to get it on video sometime.

Trav's First Hike

the days of confinement to the house are slowly tapering away! everyone has told us it only gets better and though we've been perfectly happy (tired, but happy), it is great to see Travis getting bigger, staying awake longer and going longer between feedings! Today we decided he was big enough for the 'baby bjorn' and we took him on our neighborhood hike through the redwoods of Mount Hermon. it was great to get out! check out the photo set (6 photos) here.

oh yea, I even got a run in last week... two workouts in the same week! crazy I know, but we're slowly returning to life as normal... well I suppose it'll never be normal again, but you get the idea.

I snapped this shot with my phone as I ran tip toed (so my feet wouldn't fall through the gaps between the railroad ties) across the train tressle. I thought it was pretty so I posted it. We live in a pretty area.

Quote of the week

from teammate and friend Brian Heneghan:
"Why line up if you're afraid of a pro?"
such is the attitude you have to have as a Cat 2. ...thanks for reminding us all Brian!

Egg and Muffin Toaster Warms Your Meat : Gizmodo

so this is kind of related to my earlier post about the bacon alarm clock. and I'm not going to say it's not related to cycling anymore (though this is intended to mostly be a cycling/sport related blog), because really when it comes down to it, (contrary to what any good coach would tell you) cycling is really just a vehicle to allow one to consume more yummy food. anyway, check out the link below. all you breakfast lovers out there will like it!

AllDumb: Videos - One Crazy RC Toy

So this is totally unrelated to anything cycling, but just too cool not to pass on. Check out this super cool remote control car/boat/plane thing: AllDumb: Videos - One Crazy RC Toy. Is that cool or what?!? Think the government already has life sized versions? That'd be the coolest mode of transportation... EVERRRRrrr. Well aside from the bicycle of course! Unfortunately the inventor's site (http://michaelconnally.com/) is down from excessive bandwidth... wonder why!

Fatty gets another win AND his upgrade!

Fatty is now a PHat cat 2 on the track. Here's how it happened:

I was looking forward to hitting the track last night after skipping last Tuesday night and lots of training in the hot, baking, oppressive sun this weekend. The highlight was that Rob Hacker got his well deserved cat 3 upgrade after dominating again last saturday, so he came up to T-town for some playtime last night too. We asked how each other felt... "pretty good, I think".

Event 1: 15 lap points race - Rob attacked from the gun and some very ornery riders jumped all over him after chasing for a couple laps. This set me up perfectly to take the first sprint win, then we snagged some 2nd sprint points and finally some 3rd sprint points. Overall I took the top spot and Rob was in a 4 way point tie for 2nd. The tie breaker was placing in the final sprint and I think they screwed it up and gave him 4th. Should have been 3rd.

Event 2: Win-Out - I had little interest in going for the first sprint (win) as a couple guys were all geared up for it. Regardless, coming into that lap I had good position and hit the line 3rd with a gap back to the rest. Front 2 guys swung up and I buried myself for the next 3 laps and took the 2nd place sprint solo. Rob was in solo chase for 3rd and nearly hung on until a hard charging rider nipped him in the 3rd turn leaving Rob with another hard-earned 4th.

Event 3: Miss-Out - Sit in and don't be last. Rob and I took turns sitting on the front staying out of trouble. At one point I was caugh inside/low (worst spot) and had to back off, swing around the last rider and sprint out of turn 4 with everything to not be last. A few laps later Rob found himself caught at the back with nowhere to go. Damn. Finished about 6th I think. I managed to stay safe until the final 3. Then we had our free lap and final sprint. I was stuck on the front leading it out, so I swung up to the boards and rode it like a match sprint. On the 4th turn I lit it up with 2 riders in tow and gave a full final lap sprint and managed to hang on
to the win.

End results: I needed 1 point to get a cat 2 upgrade. I got 13 points. Rob rode a great night and will be joining me shortly in the 2's. He's definitely the new cat 3 tuff guy. Now we need to get Nicoll and Leech to tuedays and we'll have a heck of a MG-GPOA track showing. We both skipped the feature event because it wasn't going to start until about 10:30 and we have jobs and wives and stuff.

Good job Fatty!

Bike Traps

Wow, check this out: KSL NewsRadio 1160: Bike Traps Coming to a Road Near You

Thankfully I've only had a few close calls with bad motorists, but obviously there are some real horror stories out there so something like this can only help. What do you all think? Leave a comment and let me know.

Much thanks to my buddy Eric Krause for sending this my way.
